PHAROAHE MONCH LIVE TONIGHT WITH TASTE

August 6, 2008

PHAROAHe

Tonight, we’ve got our friend Pharoahe coming through.
He’s a really nice guy, someone you’d want to go to a ball game with, maybe toss a couple back at happy hour on the corner.

Oh, he’s also one of the pioneering mc’s in hip hop music who defined a style of rhythmic lyricism that remains unparalleled to this day.

Come by for a most unique, rare and intimate performance by the one and only, Pharoahe Monch with DJ Boogie Blind + an opening performance by one of uptown’s finest, Cause and DJ Equal on the 1s and 2s

Tonight, at 205Club
We love you too.

LICK LAUNCH PARTY WITH JOI @ 205CLUB

July 31, 2008

JOI

Last night, we launched LICK! Our new female artists series, saluting the flyest ladies in the arts. To celebrate the occasion, we brought Joi of Outkast and Dungeon Family fame to perform one the most inspiring performances we’ve had at 205Club.

She ripped through 8 or 9 songs, shedding a tear during a tribute to her lost friend, Outkast touring backup vocalist Peaches. The set backed by Nikki Glaspie (drummer for Beyonce, Martin Luther & More), was complete with Joi annihilating notes with that Southern choir girl in her.

LICK

Ebony Wildcat opened the night dropping funk, soul & reggae records before the early performance by Valencia Robinson, an unknown vocalist we discovered over the weekend from Nashville.

Stay tuned for the next LICK, August 27th at 205Club

Thanks to the artists; Ashes57, Joi, The Agytators, Valencia Robinson, Jasmine Solano, DJ CAT NYC, Wildcat Ebony Brown
To those that helped all night, Tamokko, Melina, Alana, & 205 crew
Those who provided pampering for our artists and guests: Bumstick Studio, TONE,, Minx Nails, Jetset Bodywork, Vane Russo, Kill Shop Kill, Ian of Puma, Audible Treats, Wine Cellar Sorbet

KORRUPT 5 PHOTOS BY TONE

May 22, 2008

This past Saturday, we spent the night in Chinatown taking over 88 Palace, a mini-mall food-court dancefloor type of thing. You know one of those.

Nearly 600 people came out to party with the Retrokidz, XXXChange, DJ Wool & Micprobes, along with our-beautiful-selves, Bijules & the SixSixSick Girls. We saw Dave 1 from Chromeo and Armand Van Helden lurking in the shadows while Roxy danced with Ser and we learned how to host a DIY table reservation.

Stay tuned for the next one

BAND WATCH: C-MON & KYPSKI

April 7, 2008

LaMae has the best description for our friends from Amsterdam..
“It’s like Gogol Bordelo, Hot Chip, Electro/Hip Hop with 4 guys from Amsterdam and they all sing.”
(I would also add DJ Revolution and the Beach Boys.)

C-Mon and Kypski have one of the most entertaining live sets I’ve ever seen. Whistles and mpc’s, drums with turntables on top of them and a cast of 4 characters from the Netherlands who have a limited edition Nike Dunk designed for them.

The set ranges from heavy rocking out, to throwback hip hop breaks and turntablism, to something with farts and awkward key stabs. It’s really hard to explain actually, you kind of have to see it and lucky enough they’re out on tour with Lotus for the next few weeks.

Plus, we love the music videos.
